EPISODE 15: SCARES THAT CARE! Horror Convention DOUBLE-PLATINUM album

This week's episode comes after a pretty LONG hiatus due to my vacation time, schedules, and whatnot, but it turned out to be an AMAZING one. It's so good, it's actually TWO podcasts in ONE.

http://www.mediafire.com/listen/gyunrapk2uhjezf/KwameJason15.mp3

EPISODE 15 is kind of our DOUBLE-PLATINUM show and the theme is 1983. The first half is just our typical sit-down and shoot-the-breeze podcast in the Danger Room. We talked about what we've been up to so far this summer, my epic pilgrimage to Michigan and Chicago and back, some TV and book checkups, a new segment called the 3 Threes, and just good conversation, my friends.

The second half takes us ON LOCATION to the SCARES THAT CARE! Horror Convention that was in Williamsburg, VA this past weekend, and the best part of this CON is that it raises money for kids and families in need. And this brings us to the 1983 theme. CHRISTINE was there, and we are now friends.

The two main Horror themes of the CON were CHRISTINE and FRIGHT NIGHT reunions, both now enjoying their third decade anniversaries. We got great interviews with SCARES THAT CARE! organizer and founder Joe Ripple, Christine's Mortal Caretaker Bill Gibson, as well as film stars like William Atherton, your favorite antagonist from films like Ghostbusters, Die Hard, and Real Genius, from Fright Night William Ragsdale and Amanda Bearse (who played Marcy on Married With Children), Baywatch star Alexandra Paul and William Ostrander from Christine, and we wound it up with Sid Haig and Kane Hodder (aka Jason) team up on poor Malcolm Denare a.k.a. Moochie from Christine.

It's a great show, so go download/listen now: http://www.mediafire.com/listen/gyunrapk2uhjezf/KwameJason15.mp3

I'll miss you Christine...

EPISODE 14: BONO Variant Podcast

http://www.mediafire.com/listen/1md9z5yxrmqcd7e/KwameJason14.mp3

We had an AWESOME time this morning recording Episode 14 of the Kwame & Jason: It Is What It Is Podcast with our very special guest Bono, and no, not that guy from U2. Our Bono is way cooler and he pronounces it better too.

But yeah, it was a fun time and Bono was great. We talked about Pharrell's return to Virginia Beach at both Princess Anne High School, his alma mater, as well as his appearance at Shaggfest. We also talked about my recent adventure on the USS Cole for Harborfest, Tracy Morgan's accident, Harvward's discovery of a book made out of human skin, and of course...movies!!!

We delved into X-Men: Days of Future Past again with Bono's glowing review as well as the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, and Bono enlightened us about a documentary being shot locally called "Fight Church," about a local pastor who trains MMA and it's being done by an Oscar Award Winning director. Oh, and as always we went sideways and veered here there and everywhere. You won't want to miss the good times that were had by all.

EPISODE 13: Sad Days in Norfolk

It's Sunday once again and we were back in the Danger Room for another episode of the Kwame & Jason: It Is What It Is podcast, once again joined by our good friend Katie. What was planned to be an episode dedicated to the new X-Men: Days of Future Past film took a substantially more serious tone. We talked about this weekend's tragedy in Norfolk and the discussion turned towards religion and faith, the gun control issues, local crime, as well as self-awareness and preservation. We also recapped last week's Mega Nerd Garage Sale, Game of Thrones was brought up, and yes, we did talk about X-Men, even though Katie didn't do her "homework." Granted, she had a pretty good excuse.

So go LISTEN or DOWNLOAD Episode 13 here: http://www.mediafire.com/listen/blef2ueiyvyiiz3/KwameJason13.mp3

Oh...and we keep forgetting to take pictures, so here's a shot of Kwame and Katie from the first time she was a guest. #SwitchbackSunday ?!?!

EPISODE 12: MEGA NERD GARAGE SALE

We hit the road once again, this time for the Mega Nerd Garage Sale in Virginia Beach, which was spearheaded by Mike Federali as a way to raise money for October's Tidewater Comicon. There was a big group of people when we arrived and we literally recorded on a guy's front lawn.

EPISODE 12 is up and you can listen/download here: http://www.mediafire.com/listen/40eixkbfcjhiuda/KwameJason012.mp3

It was great meeting the folks who attended and got some new treasures for their collections, we had fun talking to some of them, we got to hook up with our buddy Daniel from the When Nerds Collide podcast, and a great time was had by all I think, us included.

But, it took a turn when we talked with Nicole and Christina from Action Packed! Cosplay. They told us about the volunteer work they do for kids at children's hospitals and how they are championing the fight against sexual harassment of female cosplayers at conventions. It was an eye-opening interview and you might actually tear up a little. Great seeing you again, ladies. You are truly some heroes in our eyes and keep up the amazing work that you are so passionate about doing.

Here is a link to the HOPE FOR HENRY Foundation they volunteer for with the children, as well as the group fighting against female cosplay harrassment and unwanted advances at HollabackPHILLY: http://philly.ihollaback.org/comic/

OLD MAN SIDE PROJECT: EPISODE ONE & TWO with Raymond Watts

The very first episode of the OLD MAN SIDE PROJECT podcast is FINISHED and ready for listening, downloading, what have you: http://www.mediafire.com/listen/3xaqdlc7vg1d5ae/OldMan001.mp3

This was something I wanted to do for a while with my old friends. Just sitting around talking about the old days, good times, and great memories. We have all lost a lot of great people in the last couple years and I felt it was a cool way to have a lasting digital memory of my friends and our experiences. I hope it also may inspire some of you out there to get together with your friends, roll some tape, have a few cold ones, and do the same. Just talking about the great times and have something a little more lasting than a photograph.

EPISODE 1 features my good friend Raymond Watts from Joplin and we talked about how we met, our 20+ year friendship, our early years in Joplin, Raymond's hockey obsession, and some of the friends we have lost. Raymond had a great story about Ryan Smith and we even dropped a couple VD songs at the end (Stan, don't sue us!!!). EPISODE 2 is the continuation of our conversation. It's recorded and will be up on Sunday.

So here it is, give it a listen on this Friday night if you have nothing to do or drop it on your phone or device and pull it up whenever you might be feeling a little nostalgic.

AND........
UPDATE: EPISODE 2 of the Old Man Side Project is now done too: http://www.mediafire.com/listen/1pacclucp02l30q/OldMan002.mp3

In this 2nd installment with Raymond, more funny Ryan Smith/VD stories as well as some about our bro Shane Chapman who we lost last year. And, more beer-fueled hazy memories of a bygone era in Joplin. I hope all you folks in the 417 enjoy our reflections, and again, maybe get inspired to sit down with your brothers and sisters and just talk...reminisce...remember...

You are all truly missed...following the podcast I dug out my box of Joplin tapes and we listened to some VD, Squirm, Initial Detonation, and Last Call. I had a great week with my brother Raymond. See you soon, bro...
